Bhagwati Sarla Paliwal Kanya Inter College Jattari

Origin & History

“You educate a man; you educate a man. You educate a woman; you educate a generation. ― Brigham Young

T.K. Paliwal, Manager founded this inter college on 23rd July 1986 for the progress of girl’s education. The school not only serviced Jattari but also the villages in the 20 kilometer radius. For this sacred deed, founder donator Smt. Bhagwati Devi w/o Mr. Roshan Lal Paliwal Resi. Nazafgarh (Delhi) donated rupees one Lakh (1,00,000 Rs.) and Smt. Sarla Devi Paliwal W/o Mr. Ram Chand Paliwal Resi. Maur (Aligarh) donated rupees fifty thousand (50,000 Rs.)

The college addressed the safety concerns of the parents and provides high standards of learning. The immediate goal was to reduce the drop-out rate of girls after 5th grade.

The college began to educate girls from 1st till the 8th grade with only 52 students and 8 teachers. The challenge was not only to provide infrastructure (land, building, supplies etc) but to keep the expenses low as most the girls come from families surviving on farm work, small shops, and hourly labor where average income of the families was less than 100 Rs ($2.00) a day.

In last 26 years with more than 2000 high school graduates, the college has come a long way. It is on 2.5 acres of land with more than 30 classrooms, a fully functional library and sewing center. The college also runs the scholarship programs with the help of more than 25 overseas sponsors to help the girls financially.

The college has also started developing (in final phases) the science annex (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Home Science laboratories) to provide science and math education for the girls to pursue in engineering, technology and medicine. See the picture below of Science Annex (one of the best facility in District Aligarh).
